‘Rebirth’ is the latest evolution of a visual metaphor I have been visiting in my works since 2019. That year I made an object titled ‘Seed’s Cracked’ as I was exploring solid materials such as hard wax, metals, and stones. ‘Seed’s Cracked’ was a metaphor for a visceral mass cracking and breaking open and - as a result of the deformation - revealing a newfound value from within its core.

In our latest collaboration with Derin, we used an experimental marbling method, along with more traditional etching techniques such as aquatint and à la poupée. We mixed lavender oil and hard ground solution for the marbling method. I hand colored the ‘core’ on each varied edition. For me, and for now, this evolution of the image represents being reborn from inside of a heart, as well as birthing something out of one’s own heart.
